Paul Bril, who designed the original landscape, had a clever trick up his sleeve. Because his last name means glasses in Flemish, he would often sign his work by painting a tiny pair of spectacles instead of a signature.

The master engraver Aegidius Sadeler II translated Bril's vision into this highly detailed print in 1615. Together, they perfectly captured the crisp, pastoral energy of the autumn harvest, complete with subtle zodiac symbols floating in the sky.
